All Saints Day

Hi everyone! I will be in France next week and just realized that Tuesday is All Saints Day. Now, I don%26#39;t know much about this holiday, but Tuesday is one of the days that I plan to be in Paris.

For the local experts, is this holiday one such that places will be closed and deserted, like here on x-mas and Thanksgiving?

Thanks for reading. . .

Cheers!

All Saints Day ( November 1 ) is a public holiday.

Museums and Monuments maybe closed or vary the opening times.

I was there last year on Nov. 1, and a lot was closed, but enough was open that it was ok. Small shops and restaurants were closed, those in the touristy areas were open, for example...

Everything is open on Thanksgiving over here :-)

D%26#39;orsay will be open for All Saints Day, but most of the other museums will be closed, as they are always closed on Tuesdays.

The Marais is often a good place to head when the rest of the city is closed for Catholic Holidays.

All larger stores/restaurants/cafés in the one digit arrondissements will remain open as usual. I know phread likes to think that Paris is a kind of 1930s Krakow with an oppressive mass going majority keeping a ghetto in its heart, but there is hardly any discrepancy on the opening status of businesses in what she calls %26quot;Le Marais%26quot; (ie one street thereof) and the rest of Paris on any day of the year, %26quot;Catholic holiday%26quot; or not. The shops and cafés on rue Sainte Croix de la Bretonnerie or rue des Francs Bourgeois don%26#39;t remain open on Sundays because they are not Catholic, but because it%26#39;s a highly touristy neighborhood and, as such, are allowed by the Préfecture to remain open on Sundays.

Go to a cemetary and see a sort of family celebration. Many people bring family and put flowers on tombs of loved ones who are departed, and sometimes have a picnic. The florist sell the most flowers on this day so the cemetaries are full of flowers. I think Pere Lachaise is the most interesting to visit. The Seine is never closed and you can also visit Notre Dame.
