I went to see to tomb of Jim MORRISON ,Edith Piaf and V.HUGO.

Any experience ?

Yes, been there and love it!

Isn%26#39;t Victor Hugo interred at the Pantheon??

|||

Yes. They have maps at the entrance, you should get one because it%26#39;s a very old place with graves everywhere...

There are SO MANY famous people buried there...

And Hugo is not there...

It%26#39;s wonderful. Sometimes the graves of the not so famous steal the heart too, we saw one of a baby born and died on the same day - heartbreaking.

Definitely get a map at the entrance, it%26#39;s huge. You can usually smell your way to Jim Morrison%26#39;s grave, there%26#39;s a distinct %26quot;herbal%26quot; smell! Another grave not to miss is Oscar Widle.

Guguk......Your post says you %26quot;went%26quot; to see. I guess you mean you %26quot;want%26quot; .

So, if you haven%26#39;t been yet......GO. It%26#39;s wonderful and a place the average tourist to Paris doesn%26#39;t even know about. My favorite (as you can tell by my name) is Chopin. Have wanted to make a %26quot;pilgrimage%26quot; to his grave ever since I heard about Pere Lachaise over 30 years ago. Of course, my hubby took a pic or two of me standing next to his memorial. The whole place exceeded my expectations.

Jim Morrison%26#39;s is tres disappointing, but had seen pictures beforehand and already knew what to expect. Oscar%26#39;s is great, complete with lipstick prints. You mustn%26#39;t miss Victor Noir! Loved Heloise and Abelard too. Like someone else said, there are so MANY beautiful monuments of just ordinary people. It%26#39;s a GREAT photo op!

Try to give yourself plenty of time there. We arrived much later than I wanted to, about 4 o%26#39;clock on Sunday. They scrupulously observe closing time (which was 6 in September). Guards appeared out of nowhere, rounding people up and herding them toward the main entrance. We didn%26#39;t get to see Piaf%26#39;s. It%26#39;s at the very top of the hill, at the back of the cemetery. If you go by metro, you can get off at the Gambetta stop rather than the Pere Lachaise stop, which will put you at the top of the cemetery. The Pere Lachaise stop is located at the bottom of the hill.

It%26#39;s really important to have a good map if there are specific graves you want to see. Even with a map, it%26#39;s hard to find some of them. Morrison%26#39;s is off the main path and crammed between other taller monuments. There were quite a few others standing around, which led us to it. If no one was %26quot;visiting%26quot; him, you%26#39;d never find it! His grave was less than overwhelming.

sorry for HUGO ,but thank%26#39;s anyway. i%26#39;ll get the map at the entrance.What about %26lt;Yves Montand ?

|||

Yes, Yves Montand is buried at Pere Lachaise with Simone Signoret. You can take a virtual visit of the cemetary and plan your real visit at: http://www.pere-lachaise.com/ There you can look up who is buried there.

Where in the world is BAR HARBOR ME ???

|||

I don%26#39;t think you can get a map at the entrance, rather you can buy them at one of the many florists shops as you near the entrance and a few cafes as well. Another tip is to get out at Gambetta metro stop and enter Pere Lacahise from there (follow the signs) as it will be down hill. If you start at the Pere LaChaise metro stop, it is very much uphill. There are some very moving memorials to those who died at German concentration camps in one area. I think Chopin%26#39;s tomb is especially lovely. Morrison%26#39;s has been destroyed by souvinier seekers but there are usually candles lit there. There is also a full time policeman standing there to prevent vandalism to other tombs. I%26#39;ve read that once someone even climbed the wall of the cemetery to try and dig up Jim Morrisson. Now they have cameras every where to prevent things like that.

|||

Cameras , police, dig out JM ? serious about that ??

Guguk.....Bar Harbor is a town in the northeastern U.S. in the state of Maine.
