Are there any good Irish bars in Paris?

My husband loves to check out Irish bars in various cities when we travel. He%26#39;d really like to find some good ones in Paris that are either close to Notre Dame (our hotel is close by) so he could walk, or others that are recommended where he would just take a taxi. He may be going by himself (as I%26#39;m not too into that scene) and wants to make sure the neighborhood is safe. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Travelnutty, Oh my gosh! We%26#39;re only going to be there 5 nights! If he visits them all he%26#39;ll be %26quot;swimming%26quot; through the streets of Paris! Thanks for such complete information. I didn%26#39;t realize,either, that there were so many Irishmen in Paris! Have a nice evening.

|||

Why would anyone want to visit an Irish pub in Paris? Why not go to the source and see what a real Irish pub is like. If he wants a shot of good, if not great, Irish whiskey, then fine, but an Irish pub in Paris isn%26#39;t really an Irish pub, it%26#39;s simply another theme bar.

|||

www.parispubs.com

is a good start. It%26#39;s out-of-date regarding prices but the places listed are still open.

If you%26#39;d by Notre Dame then the best Irish bars would be :

The Green Linnet. My favourite bar in Paris, is about 10 minutes from you, right by Hotel de Ville. Music on Thursdays, Fridays and traditional music on Sundays.

In St.Michel area you%26#39;ll find Corcorans on the Rue St Andre des Arts. It%26#39;s a little more expensive as it%26#39;s on a touristy street. And also The Galway which prides itself on having a clientele that speak to each other due to not having a tv on 24/7 which is becoming the norm in other bars in town.

|||

%26gt; Surely these can%26#39;t ALL still be operating..! I never knew there were so many:

yes and no. They aren%26#39;t all still open. The following have closed down since :

Art O%26#39;Leary%26#39;s

Flann O%26#39;Briens

The Kildare ( reopedn under new name last month)

The Wild Geese

Dicey Riley%26#39;s

Tigh Johnny%26#39;s

so that leaves 30 bars in your list. As soon as you get the other 30 anglophonic bars in town you%26#39;ll have the full list :)

|||

Luv France - A plug here for the Auld Sod.

Has hubby ever tried an Irish Bar in Ireland? There is a difference, and obviously they are more authentic ;O)

On a serious note, Guinness is much better in Ireland than abroad and you will also get the %26quot;Characters%26quot; over here that you won%26#39;t get %26quot;someplace foreign%26quot;.

Have a great trip - and maybe some time you%26#39;ll get to sit in a genuine unthemed bar over here during an Ireland-France Rugby Match!! The atmosphere is 90 and the craic is mighty :O)

|||

The Hairy Lemon, Leeson Street, and I think Mulligan%26#39;s are also gone.

Molly Malone%26#39;s, the Oscar Wilde and the Horse%26#39;s Mouth are French %26quot;Irish%26quot; pubs.

Someone queried the point of going to an Irish pub in Paris. If you find a good one, there are several reasons to go inlcuding:

generally mixed French-expat-tourist clientele means conversational possibilities and tips from people who live there,

French people who are open to conversation, are more likely to speak English and want to meet anglophones.

Thanks ptegan and beanalainn. He has been to Ireland which is why he is forever in search of Irish bars wherever else we go! He fell in love with %26quot;Smithwick%26#39;s%26quot; and can%26#39;t find it here in our area. He understands the difference between an authentic bar in Ireland and one anyplace else, but still wants to go to look for that beer and Irish comraderie. (His mother was a first generation American from Ireland). So a very kind %26quot;thank you%26quot; to you for offering positive responses and suggestions. And, by the way, for his birthday next year (a whopper!), his present will be a trip to the Auld Sod!

|||

Smithwick%26#39;s goes under the name of Kilkenny in France, and I%26#39;m not sure the taste is the same. Several years ago they made it more %26quot;creamy%26quot; in Europe.

Louie LI, Very well put in your first response! Why does anyone who doesn%26#39;t know the situation need to judge on this type of forum?! Thanks also for the Kilkenny tip. I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;ll be very happy to do a taste test!
