Is it a safe place To walk nowadays ? I heard of people being muggeg by youngster near the metro .Are there still restaurants in this extraordinary place?

to tell the truth, there are 2 parts in the puces. one with antiquities, which is very safe, because %26#39;riff raff%26#39; dont care about that. i never had any pb, it%26#39;s more calm and safe. then you arrive to the %26#39;friperies%26#39; part, with clothes, mobile phones etc, and well you will see an extreme change in the population lol. a lot more people, a lot of pickpockets, i was never agressed there, but always keeping my bag VERY close, because the crowd is very big on the we. and if you are a guy it%26#39;s alright, last time i was with a friend, she looks a bit like a barbie, and we had some pbs, been a bit inslulted, but u know what i%26#39;m less afraid there than on the champs elysees a saturday night. just be VERY careful with your bags, and rather go where the oldfurniture are, it%26#39;s more interesting than buying cheap and not very good quality clothes you can probably have in your country.

we brought students there once, and they were idiots, shouting in English, being noticeable...and they got held up....
I agree w/ previous poster...

I frequently go to St-Ouen. For English-speakers, I wouldn%26#39;t use the word %26quot;mugging%26quot;, since that implies that one has been robbed by force and possibly beaten, as well. %26quot;Pickpocketed%26quot; is the better choice of words. As in any part of Paris that is extremely crowded (and I%26#39;m talking shoulder-to-shoulder jostling for a couple of blocks around the metro station), there is always a danger of being pickpocketed.
That said, I can never understand why people don%26#39;t just walk along the nearly-vacant sidewalk on the other side of the street leading from the metro station to the antiques market. I guess its one of those strange human quirks....

is the other side more safe to walk ? Did you have food out there ?

Hardly anyone walks on the other side (the side with the gas station). It%26#39;s a clear path from the metro all the way to rue des Rosiers where the antiques markets start.
