First visit to Paris

My wife and I will be staying at the Marriott Village d%26#39;ile-de-France next to Disney. Any feedback on things to do, train passes, reasonable places to eat and visit. Thank You

To get from the Marriott Villages out near DLP, you will have to take the hotel%26#39;s shuttle bus (check with the hotel) to the MARNE-la-VALLEE / CHESSY RER station then RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne train into one of it%26#39;s stops across central Paris. The travel time from Marne-la-Vallee to central Paris averages 40 minutes. On average, it will probably take 60-70 minutes between your hotel and central Paris. Marne-La-Vallee / Chessy is out in transportation ZONE 5, so whichever of the various transportation pass option (Carte Orange, Paris Visité, Mobilis) you select, based on the days of your particular itinerary, you will need one valid for Zones 1-5 The regular round-trip RER %26#39;A%26#39; fare is 12,40 €uro and you may also purchase reduced-price Carnet%26#39;s (booklets of 10 individual RER tickets--49,60 €) for the trip.

The Paris Visite Pass can be bought for 1 to 5 days at the airport or at the RER/Metro/Train stations and maybe even at your hotel. The RER/Metro system is divided into zones. Disney is at the end of Zone 5 at the Marne-la-Vallee/Chessy RER station, so you%26#39;d need to buy a pass valid from zones 1-5. The trip to Paris is about 35 minutes.

You don%26#39;t say how many days and what time of year you will be in France. If you enjoy walking, I believe that is (weather permitting) the best way to experience Paris. As this is your first trip, you should see the famous sites that are certainly an important part of Paris such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe and there are so many wonderful museums. Much depends on what interests you. Buy a good guidebook to help you decide what to see and do. I really recommend the Cadogan City Guide Paris, 2nd (Amazon sells it if you can%26#39;t find it locally). Also if you will be in the area for more than a week, you might want to visit Versailles or Monet%26#39;s house %26amp; garden.

I strongy encourage you to stay within the city if your goal is to visit paris. You can swing by your hotel during the day to relax a little and then head out again for sightseeing. You can also go back and relax before dinner. Many things will be right out your door. If you shop you can drop off packages at your room and then continue with your day.

If you stay at the Mariott nothing is within walking distance. I cant imagine getting up in the AM, riding the RER into the city with all the commuters followed by a day of sightseeing and then go out to dinner in Paris before going back to your hotel at 9 pm or 10 pm.
