taxi from CDG to center

We wil be in Paris for Christmas. We arrive in CDG and will be staying near the Opera. Should we ask for a pre-set price for the taxi or do they go by meter? Also, there has been so much talk on the forum about tipping...what would be correct for the taxi driver and the doorman! Thanks!

Haven%26#39;t heard of any pre-set price being used by Paris taxis. It will run anywhere between 40-55€...a 5-8% tip for the driver should be fine. I don%26#39;t stay in hotels with doormen, but figure it should be about the same as in the States - 1-2€ per bag..

The legitimate taxi drivers work by meter. The rogue taxi drivers who will pester you after you enter the Arrivals Hall will charge you whatever they feel. Just ignore the latter and go out the exit door to the legit taxi line. It costs approximately 45 euro to central Paris from CDG.

As has been mentioned Parisian taxis are metered...or supposed to be. The fares are based on the metered distance and time. There are no set fares. If a driver does offer you a set price, you should probably look for another taxi. Furthermore, legitimate drivers do not %26#39;..troll..%26#39; through airport terminals offering discounted rates or set-prices. Almost every airport taxi %26#39;..horror storry..%26#39; I%26#39;ve ever heard began with, %26quot;..This driver approached us in at the terminal and offered us a deal....%26quot; and ended with, %26quot;..we were ripped off..%26quot;

There are NO driver tips included in taxi fares. The customary tip could be anywhere from 1 or 2 €uor to 10% of the metered fare...or as your own personal custom and practice dictates.

Were in Paris for the 5th time in September.

We went out gate 18 and got in a very

short line for a Taxi Parisien. Two of us

and 4 bags from CDG to the 6th arrondisement.

Cost E38.50.

Hope this is some help.

I thought I%26#39;d toss in (just because it hasn%26#39;t been mentioned), the RoisseyBus. It%26#39;s an express service directly to the Opera Garnier that stops at every terminal at CDG. The terminus is directly behind the Opera on rue Scribe. Cost is 8.30 EUR/person

Thanks to all for your help. We are so excited about being in Paris for Christmas. We have enjoyed March, August and September, but never Christmas! we%26#39;ll follow all the advice...take the taxi, tip about 10% and be happy as can be! Thanks again!

Not wanting to split hairs, but in Paris tipping the taxi is just an add on, not mathematically proportional to the original fare, the way it is in the States. Basically, you just round up, less than € 1 within town, € 2 to 3 from CDG. The driver won%26#39;t be expecting more, but they do know that American tourists overtip by our standards.

Thanks much! This really does help us a lot...wish you could all join us for the trip! I LOVE all the info I jet from the forum.

Hello

Just read ur question. Tipping is appreciated but make it about 5% of the cost. As for travelling distance. Id recomend looking on the AA Routefinder,just type in your destination from CDG and it will tell u the miles and the expected time. Hope this helps. Have fun. x
