Cleanliness

My fiancee is worried about our honeymoon trip to Paris, hearing from several people that it is a dirty city and that she will be dissappointed. I%26#39;ve kept on the positive side and she is still on board just concerned. Also, I will be staying on the Rue des Ecoles in the Latin Quartier, good area? shops? cafes? clean?

There have been lots of posts about that and yes Paris is a clean city. The only thing that can be dirty are public toilets (in the streets or in cafes). So I would suggest that you do whatever you have to do in your room%26#39;s bathroom before going out for visiting the city.

Yes, good area, lots of shops and cafés!

The streets of Paris are cleaned on a daily basis, when most tourists still sleep... unfortunately, they tend to get dirty during the day. Same in every large city, I%26#39;d say, except for Singapore.

I suppose those several people are just kind of envious, non?

And here%26#39;s the Paris public bathroom guide. Just in case.... ;o)

Been one of the great metropolis of the world I consider Paris quite clean, if you want to compare, I consider NYC dirtier, this might give you a reference( that is, if you been to NYC ),alas no comparison in beauty, Paris is Paris.

I also stayed in rue des ecoles in my last trip. Very centric , just a stone throw from Ile delaCite which is the heart of Paris. The Latin Quarter is full of restaurants with a very busy nigthlife.

Since Paris is a major city, there definitely is a certain amount of uncleanliness. But it is not out of line with any other major Western city, and better than many. One thing that Americans need to keep in mind, however, is that Paris has been continuously inhabited for nearly 1500 years more than the oldest cities in the US. The vast majority of buildings in Paris today date from the 17th to the 19th centuries, and that means there is a lot more wear and tear on buildings and infrastructure. To some people, these older buildings, streets, etc. may look dirty or in disrepair.

Singapore is a really clean city and think even chewing gum is banned there.Tokyo is another clean city expecially for how big it is.

I%26#39;d place Paris about midway amongst European cities with German and Scandanavian cities being cleaner and London,

Rome,Athens,etc., being dirtier.

New York is below most European or Asian cities in regards to cleanliness but is probably a little better than Rio de Janeiro,

Mexico City,Cairo,etc.

Yes, and to others of us those old old buldings are so incredibly beautiful....

I agree with everyone here - Paris is no %26quot;dirtier%26quot; than any other major city, and in my opinion is %26quot;cleaner%26quot; than NYC.

Paris is the most romantic city on earth! Your fiance should be thrilled to be able to spend her honeymoon there! But that%26#39;s just my opinion...

Give any of those old buildings before most of the modern ones.Believe me, I do appreciate modern architecture but most people go to Paris to enjoy the %26quot;oldies%26quot; instead of the more modern Grand Arc de La Defense sector. That%26#39;s what, in my opinion ,makes Paris so charming. Esthetics was the priority instead of the functionability of today.

Maybe that%26#39;s the problem with the New World , everything is too new.

Hello obxcop,

Well it is a city..........fairly large, complicated, loud.........busy. Compared to Kill Devil Hills, N.C., it might be considered by you all as dirty.............But it isn%26#39;t........it is just well used by many people everyday. If you are not used to big cities it just might be a bit overwhelming.............

Expect it to be totally different than what you are used to. After all that is why you are travelling, isn%26#39;t it? Be open minded, enjoy and celebrate the difference!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Paris and loved it!! It is a very clean city, despite being so large, and I think your fiance will love it once she is there. And yes it is very romantic! Have fun!
