Paris in February -- am I nuts?

We are considering saving a little money (actually a lot of money) and travelling to Paris in February (with our boys, 11 and 8).

We were there once in January (BC -- before children) and remember it being nippy and grey but not dreadfully cold. (We live in Ottawa, Canada, so a little chill in the air won%26#39;t put us off.)

Has anyone been at that time of year? What was the weather like? Were there any attractions you couldn%26#39;t do or see? We are also planning a driving trip to Normandy, so if you%26#39;ve been there during the winter, I%26#39;d love to hear about that.

Thanks!

I spent a whole month and a half in the end of Feb to March. It was colder than Seattle( Seattle was 48 degrees) by about 10 degrees. So it won%26#39;t be as cold as you are used to! Do wear your London Fog with zipper linning, gloves, hat, water proof shoes, and umbrella. I did have a few sunny cold days as well as wet and windy ones. It is winter still.

I went east and encountered snow flurries in Strasbourg. I took the train and the snow was lovely to see and also the mistletoe in the trees!

All the indoor attractions were open. The flowers are not in bloom. Some of the statues were covered with canvas to keep the moss and mold off.

My daughter and her friend arrived in March and we walked all over, rode the bus, went to the flea market, street markets and shopped and ate and saw museums, took the boat ride on the Seine River. There is so much to do!

I still enjoyed my trip and I too saved alot, %26quot;ALOT%26quot; of money!

what are you going to in Normandy at this time of the year ?

Deauville or Honfleur are ghost towns, shops %26amp; restaurants are closed. if you have a loojk at the Dday beaches , ok , but if not stay out.

We plan to visit the beaches, the museum and thought we might drive on to Mont St Michel (a 2-3 day trip). Guess I better do a little research about what%26#39;ll be open.

BTW, I am no longer %26quot;disneysoon%26quot; -- more like %26quot;disneypast%26quot;. Does anyone know how to change yoru screen name? I clicked on settings but couldn%26#39;t find the right option.

I was there last February of 2005 and February 2004. In Feb. 2005 there was snow on the ground. In Feb. of 2004 flowers were blooming.

In any case, there will be less crowds than any other time of the year and you will run into some kids on their school trips to Paris.

One place you MUST go with your children is the Cite des Sciences et l%26#39;Industrie. Not only will your children enjoy it, you will be amazed also. It is a %26quot;can%26#39;t miss%26quot; part of your trip.

check when they are going to start the big works round the saint michel, you drive3 hours from omara beaxh to st michel, it%26#39;s getting dark early, maybe you have a lot of fog.%26quot; guidesdecharme. com %26amp; www. esprit-de france are great guides to find nice small hotels.

I would never go to Disney at this time of the year . and it%26#39;s only 200 miles from my place.

I was in Paris in February during one of my visits... I seem to have been lucky since the weather was OK... except for the shorter daylight hours I had no inconveniences... we even went to Disney and it was less crowded than in summer.

Hi again!

I did not go to the D-day beaches in the winter. I would expect it to be cold, maybe foggy maybe rainy maybe not!

If you rent a car to get to the D-Day beaches also go to: the Caen Peace Museum is great to see, the Bayeaux Tapestryand the US cemetery (It is so moving to see). There are two covered areas at the cemetery spots if it rains. The beaches maybe be a nice sunny cold day or not. Just take your chances.

I did go to Mont St. Micheal in the winter and it was uncrowded and wonderful to see! I have been there in summer, spring and winter and the winter was the best time!

I just booked my flight and hotel for my February 2006 trip to Paris...definitely got a great deal on the hotel room--about 20 Euros less per day than peak season.

By the way, I%26#39;m from sunny Los Angeles so if I can do it, I%26#39;m sure you all will be just fine!

Enjoy!!

I visited Paris in mid-February 2004. The weather was dry and sunny the whole week but it was cool, not cold to me. But the nighttime temperatures felt like at most in the 20F%26#39;s especially when the wind blew. It was a great month to visit just like any other month.

Paris is beautiful anytime of the year! February is fun too.. Less tourists so less line ups. You%26#39;ll get the feeling that you%26#39;ll have Paris all to yourself. You%26#39;ll need to bring your sweaters and winter jackets. Don%26#39;t assume that it will be like Spring there that time. It%26#39;s still winter. No snow but the wind chill factor makes it just as cold, especially at night.

I saw all attractions during that time.
