Paris 4th - Place des vosges - good area to stay?

Hi,

My wife and I will be going to Paris next apr/may and have found a nice place in the 4th, apparently within sight (from the balcony) of Place des Vosges, and from the map seems to be very close to the Seine. Is this a good place to stay? Safe walking to the Seine after dark, etc? We%26#39;re very much looking forward to this trip and I want to get a good spot to stay, so any advice appreciated!

Oh, it%26#39;s beautiful there. My favorite square in all of Paris is Place des Vosges. Yes, it%26#39;s safe. You won%26#39;t be sorry...it%26#39;s a great neighborhood.

Very nice and also historical area !!

A long time ago, this area was for poor people in Paris....now only for rich people ( not so true :) ) but was a popular area of Paris and now fashion area and %26quot; bourgeois %26quot; !!

Paris is no American city: it is safe to walk everywhere at night... of course even more so in the 4th!

...and from what you describe it sounds as though it must be near metro line 1 which is also a bonus in my view - line 1 takes you to so many top spots without the need to change trains.

Alright! Thanks, folks... now if I can just get that place booked, all will be well ;) I did see on another thread that the first week of May is part of spring break, and the 8th is a holiday, but I%26#39;m sure we%26#39;ll enjoy it regardless ;) Thanks again!

And May first is a holiday too. Most museums are even closed that day.

Your possible apartment within sight of Place des Vosges sounds wonderful! I would love to stay there! The area is one of the few which is opened (and crowded) on Sundays.......Many good restaurants, cafes, art galleries.........

yeah, we knew the 1st was a holiday, so we shuffled our schedule around so we arrive in Paris on the 3rd, but will be there over the 8th. But probably need a day of rest by then anyway! lol

It%26#39;s a great neighborhood. Vistit Rue de Rosiers and get a fallafel for 5 euro.
