Three-star or two-star hotel near Jardin du Luxembourg

We are considering a three-star (or really nice two-star) a hotel near the Jardin du Luxembourg since we are traveling with a five-year old. Questions

1. Is this a good location with a young child who is used to traveling %26amp; enjoys hotels?

2. Or, do you have other suggestions for locations?

3. Any specific hotels you can suggest?

We are hesitant to stay in an apartment as we think (maybe wrongly) that a hotel with a concierge could help us?

A great three-star 2 minutes from the gardens is Hotel L%26#39;Abbaye - a quiet, safe location - an oasis actually.

I am staying at Hotel Jardins du Luxembourg in March. Great reviewn in this forum:

I%26#39;m not sure of your budget but I stayed at the Relais St. Jacques and really loved the hotel. I did receive a summer discount in a prestige room which is one of the larger rooms. Standard rooms are tiny (typical for Paris). The bathrooms are marble and have fantastic, new wall showers and a glass shower shield. The location couldn%26#39;t be better for the Jardin du Luxembourg, about a five minute walk.

Hi - I%26#39;m in the same boat. We%26#39;ll be coming to Paris with an almost 5-yrd old from Dec 13-20, then 27-29, and we%26#39;re looking in the same area. I like it because Luxembourg has stuff for kids including a great playground, and it%26#39;s nice to be near the Mouffetard area. When are you going?

As for hotel/apart, depends on how long you%26#39;re staying and how unfamiliar you really are with Paris. If you%26#39;re a newbie, I understand your concerns, but the concept of concierge in Paris is not really there, unless you stay at a chain. There are often helpful hotel managers, but you can%26#39;t count on it, and something their English is very basic. Conversely, often, the apartment person you rent from is quite helpful and fluent in English. So I wouldn%26#39;t insist on a hotel SIMPLY for a concierge, especially if you find a nice apart. manager.

Also, the hotel rooms are VERY small - some are a little bigger, and BE SURE to ask for the biggest room possible. For instance, the Jardins de Luxembourg has mostly small rooms, although a couple are relatively larger. The room they picture on their site is the largest one. I%26#39;ve stayed in there, and while three people could fit in the bed they picture, there would be no room for a fold-out bed. They also have %26quot;2-bed suites%26quot; at around 250Euros - never stayed in those. According to Rick Steves, l%26#39;hotel du fleurie (sp?) is the most spacious in terms of kid access. Check on his site. There are possibilities for bigger rooms, but you really have to check and be specific.

We are looking for an apartment - so far, there is one in Luxembourg I am looking into. Will let you know how that develops, if you want.

Anyhow, Good luck!! Danielle

I have stayed near the Jardin Luxembourg on every trip to Paris since 1988, because it%26#39;s a GREAT park... I think staying near Luxembourg with a child is a great idea.

My favorites:

Hotel des Grandes-Ecoles.

[very nice, quiet location, but they fill up fast!]

Hotel Trois Colleges

[more budget-oriented, oops it%26#39;s listed on tripadvisor but I can%26#39;t find their website right now...]

Bon voyage! :o)

I love these boards- thanks for the tips! We%26#39;re going in early May. Will love to hear your trip report %26amp; what apartment you end up staying in Danielle. Please keep in touch. Thanks to all for the many hotel suggestions- nice to have a list to work off of.
