internet cafes

I%26#39;ll be in er 2 for the next week and would like to know of locations to access the internet on a pay as you go basis. Are these establishments common in central Paris? Thanks

Well, the more home Internet users you have, the fewer Internet cafés are available. In that respect, Paris is half way between a major American city and an African capital. For some reason, large Internet cafés are concentrated in certain areas, such as the 5th/6th, and Les Halles (which is near where you are going to be). You can find them by doing a search on www.pagesjaunes.fr, typing %26quot;cybercafés%26quot; in the %26quot;Activité%26quot; box.

THAT SAID, the Pages jaunes directory will only give you access to the big, established, cyber cafés. Actually there are plenty more, usually within what the French call %26quot;Taxiphones%26quot;, ie small telephone shops offering cheap calls to countries with the highest count of immigrants in Paris (mostly former French colonies, such as the Maghreb, Senegal, Mali, etc. ). On the Northern tip of the 2nd arrondissement, there is a sizeable Turkish community, and around Porte Saint-Denis, these establishments flourish. Otherwise, just head for any of the Les Halles/Pompidou area cybercafés.

I highly recommend XS Arena. The location at 53 rue de la Huchette is the one I used. The place is clean, well-lighted, and the clerk was very friendly. He came around to ask if anyone needed help as well.
