transportation prices for cab then train into Lourdes

approx. how much is the cab to the train station from Lordes Tarbes airport? Then how much for the train into Lourdes? Is the train station centrally located in Lourdes? We are staying at the Hotel Roissy. Is this centrally located? close to the grotto? Will we be able to walk to the Grotto?

We travelled from Pau airport which is which is about 20 miles from our Lourdes hotel for 66Euros. The distance from Tarbes airport to Lourdes hotel cluster is about 6 miles and the taxi (cab) should cost around 20Euro.

Considering that there are no regular train service from Tarbes airport to Lourdes train station, and you need a cab from Tarbes airport to the Tarbes rail station, then wait to board the train to Lourdes trainstation, then arrive at Lourdes train station which is about a mile and a half from your hotel, then getting another cab from Lourdes station to get to your hotel can be time consuming. I would recommend you take a cab straight to Hotel Roissy from Tarbes airport.

Hotel Roissy is less than a five minute walk to the Grotto and you can be in the Grotto within half an hour after leaving the Tarbes airport if you get a taxi. Hotel Roissy can arrange a taxi to pick you up from Tarbes airport, we had our hotel arrange the taxi for us. We saved an afternoon and the lugging of luggage, the taxi waited for us at the airport and dropped us at the hotel doorstep.

I hope this brings the land travel into perspective and hope you have a wonderful time in Lourdes. Lourdes is very small and easy to get about by foot but the train station is inconvenient being the other side of the town.

Just take a cab from the Lourdes Tarbes Airport straight to your hotel. Should cost 20 euros. The train station in Lourdes is about 15 to 20 minute walk from the cathedral/grotto, about 6 euros. An unsolicited advice: schedule your visit such that you are able to hear mass both in the cathedral ( 10 am? 11 am?)and in the evening by the grotto (11pm), hear confession (check the schedule for confessions in English), do the baths (2 pm), join the procession ( 9pm) and do the Stations of the Cross (anytime during the day). I have visited Lourdes 3x and make it a point to do all these. I also don%26#39;t fail to dine in this restaurant near the gate to the cathedral to try their confit de canard, or magret de canard as well as their crepes.

Taxi direct from the airport is easiest - 22 euro during the day, ~30 euro evenings and weekends. It is about a 15-20 minute ride. We arranged with the driver to pick us up on the day of our departure at the hotel. He was there 15 minutes early just to make sure. I highly recommend this taxi driver - you can pre-arrange with him directly (as we will do on our next trip) at damien-taxis-lourdes@wanadoo.fr

I fully concur with mamu%26#39;s post on the key things to do. The Marion Procession at 9pm starts forming around 8:30 - 8:45, depending on the crowds. It is quite a moving experience to walk in procession praying the rosary in numerous languages. Best thing to do is go to the information booth and get the list of things for the day. While there (at the information booth), the free movie is well worth seeing too.
