Hotel near Gare Est

My wife and I will be arriving Paris the morning of December 31st and leaving Paris the night of January 1st. We%26#39;ll be both arriving and leaving from Gare de l%26#39;Est. I%26#39;d like to find a hotel near the station so we can drop our bags off as soon as we arrive and drop our bags at the train station the next day to be picked up before departure. Any recommendations on a hotel?

How is that area of town. Chances are we%26#39;ll have to walk back to the hotel from somewhere the New Year night.

²For a hotel near Gare Est, have a look at hotel Alane, a nice and mid-range priced hotel. It is a 3 star butit is really affordable. It is really clean, I stayed there 2 nights as I had to go an exhibition in Paris Nord Villeipinte center and I was really hapy of staying there. It is just at the exit of the Gare est.

There is also a Best Western that is practically attached to Gare de l%26#39;est. It looked nice. Becareful everything within 1 block of the station is very expensive and over priced. You can get anywhere in the city limits in 30 minutes or less by metro. Paris is a very navigatable city. You also wont find any areas of the town that are not safe. However the metro shuts down at 1:1the 5 am, so be on a metro by 12:30AM in order to get home at a reasonable hour. There are Night buses that leave from Chatlet and go to Gare de l%26#39;est. The metro reopens at 5:30am, and do not count on finding a taxi that night.

If you want to stay in town I would recomend anywhere near Ile de Cite, since it is so centralied. It is at Nortre Dame and a short walk from the Opera, Arc de Triump, and Eiffel Tower

Good Luck!!!
