Montmartre: Not Sacré Coeur, not Place des Ternes, but ?

I walked through the streets of Montmartre and wondered if there are any other places to be seen as %26quot;SCoeur%26quot; or the tourist trap place des Ternes with it%26#39;s russian %26quot;painters%26quot;.

Wallace Fountain in front of SC seemed OK.

I was trying to find the bistro where %26quot; the faboulus story of Amélie Poulain%26quot; has been realized. No luck.

Any restaurant tips for this area (up the hill) ?

It is actually Place DU TERTRE, Ternes is another place in Paris. For the Amélie Poulain Café, it is not close to Sacré Coeur but close to Moulin Rouge, halfway up the street rue Lepic. From the Sacré Coeur you can take the rue Cortot, rue des saules (vineyards), rue de l%26#39;abreuvoir, allée des Brouillards, Rue d%26#39;Orchampt and Place Emile Goudeau. Then you arrive downhill. Then on rue des abbesses turn right until you reach the Amélie Poulain café, but i don%26#39;t recommend you take a céfé, the place was bought after the film success and the waiters are rude/coffee is expensive.

Ok, thyou.It ispossible to eat in the café , plat du jour ?

I intend open a topic on CHARTIER , rue Montmartre , 7.

What do you think ?

Chartier is a historic bistro, but locals find the food barely edible.

|||

Food inedible at Chartier? Then why do the French line up to get into the place?

Let the snobs say what they want about Chartier. I will tell you that the food is good, the prices are better, and it is fun, lots of fun. I%26#39;ve been to ALL types of restaurants in Paris - from those that charge $700 for lunch (Alain Ducasse) to McDonalds. I like Chartier the best!

If Sacre Couer and Place du Tertre weren%26#39;t to your liking, there are plenty of other places to see in Montmartre and on the hill. It would be a good idea to read up a bit on the area. Knowing the history/background of ANY place makes a visit there so much more meaningful....you %26quot;know%26quot; what you%26#39;re looking at.

Most travel guides include a lot of info on Montmartre. One of the best is DK EYEWITNESS-PARIS . Two others are Rick Steves%26#39; PARIS 2005 and MEMORAABLE WALKS IN PARIS (Frommer).

That%26#39;s funny about the Russian artists in Place du Tertre. Probably true! The cab driver who drove us into town on our arrival in Paris was also Russian. Actually, out of about half-a-dozen different drivers we had over the course of 8 days, maybe ONE was French.

The Cimetiere de Montmartre is interesting to wander around in... rue des Abbesses has plenty of sidewalk cafes and one-of-two remaining covered Art Nouveau metro stations (place des Abbesses)... there%26#39;s the only vineyard in Paris on the slope behind Sacre Coeur and Lapin Agile, the legendary cabaret. There are 3 windmills (moulins) in Montmartre - did you find all of them..?
