I%26#39;m not in the %26#39;know%26#39; at the moment, and I wonder a lot if and when they will ever update this airport. It%26#39;s such a bad first impression for such a fabulous city! Anyone know if it is in the cards?

The runways were what I always worry about at CDG. I think they improved them in 2000.
I was there a week before there was a terrible accident on the run way.
One of the AirFrance plane%26#39; s long wing cut through the body of another plane and chopped the heads off the passeangers on one side of another plane as it was taxi-ing into the airport.
I believe there were changes made to the runway then so it was made wider to accomodate the wing spans.
I think CDG interior was improved in sections during 2000-2002.
By the way? Did the 20,000 luggage pieces get flown to their owners?

I agree with you Les, CDG1 in particular is a disgrace with those horrible worn out orange seats. But, good news: they are actually working on it, a 3 or 5 year plan that has started, since the first tranche is fenced off (about one fifth of the kind of camembert that is CDG 1). Another positive thing to look forward to: they are currently building, at long last, a real rail system between the different terminals, that will get rid of the ghastly shuttle system. You can pretty clearly see the platform of this future system outside CDG 1.
Unfortunately, the %26quot;Roissy Express%26quot; dedicated rail system between CDG and Paris gare de l%26#39;Est has for the moment gone out of the window with Paris%26#39;s olympic bid failure. But the project is still there somewhere, just now the money might not be as available as it would have been with the olympic perspective.

Thanks for the info guys...it%26#39;s good to hear they will work on it. It%26#39;s funny that it used to be the airport of the future, and now that it%26#39;s the future it%26#39;s so dated!

Are there any great airports, i%26#39;m struggling to think of any, just come back from LA and LAX is now no.1 on my places to avoid.
I quite like CDG1 in a 70%26#39;s way, its been in loads of films and I never get bored with waving at strangers as they pass on another moving walkway.

My daughter tells me Singapore is great.

I actually like OC/John Wayne/ Santa Ana airport, I think its pretty nice.

The reality of it is that CDG is a major international transportation nexus....and CDG been a %26#39;work in progress%26#39; for the past few decades. The additions of the six(6) new #2 terminal buildings, the SNCF/TGV/RER train station, new and improved runways, etc, all testify to their committment to making improvements. The original CDG #1 terminal is currently being up-dated and renovated as are other improvementns in progress. BUT....as no one could have predicted the collapse of eastern Europe in 1990...no one could have predicted the dynamic...explosive...growth of inter-European air service since then. Paris has always been a major %26#39;hub%26#39;. No sooner than one set of plans come off of the drawing board, they need to begin working on the next set of plans. In a perfect world, they would simply decide what may be needed for the airport of the next century, draw up the plans, shut down CDG and begin building it now. In this way, those relatively few people who find the on-going improvement process annoying, won%26#39;t be inconvenienced and the work, unhampered by traveler demands, may procede more quickly efficiently. But in the real world, this all takes a lot more time than anticipated and a LOT more money than is usually available. No sistim is perphekt.

The big Asian hubs have all done it: eg Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong are great places to stop en route (for those of us who need to).
The greatest pity about Paris not winning the Olympics is that the motivation to improve the efficiency of CDG isn%26#39;t so great.
I vote for the Olympics in Paris in 2016 - that should be about enough time to build an airport befitting such a large air hub!

Terminal 1 is definitely up there with the worst of them - ugly, dirty and monstrously disorganised, and only marginally less infuriating than Italian airports. Terminal 2 (Air France / KLM / Skyteam) is much better, but the collapse of 2E is a classic case of the French putting fancy design ahead of pragmatism. Ironically, I think low-cost passengers get the best deal as Terminal 3 is for me easily the least stressful of the lot - it%26#39;s like a small regional airport and spanking new with a practical layout.
It%26#39;s true that T1 is due an update but I dread to think what it will be like to use during the years of building work...

Terminal 1 and 2A, B, C and D are ugly and depressing, as well as confusing and very user unfriendly. Bob you mentionned the notorious orange chairs in 1. For me what really does it on top of those chairs are the horrible hexagonal tiles. YUCK!
And there%26#39;s nothing to do once you%26#39;ve checked in, no decent food, no good shopping, no browsing, NOTHING.
