Any and all suggestions for wine tasting in the Burgandy area would be appreciated from places to stay to wine cellars and tasting rooms that are great to lovely villages not to miss. We will be there with rental car in March. Thank you!

Thank you so much. Very helpful! I wonder if anyone has done this drive and could give me hands on advice too? Merci!

A great way to begin your visit to Burgundy is to take one of the wine tours organzied by and at the main tourist office in Beaune. They last a couple hours and are by van rather than bus. You drive tiny roads past the all of the very famous vineyards (most of which are not open to the public even by reservation). It%26#39;s a wonderful orientation and you can get very good additional tour suggestions from the tour guide. The Saturday morning market in Beaune is terrific too.

Try Wine %26amp; Voyages, http://wineandvoyages.com. They do a very good job of touring the vineyards and cellar + wine tastings. A great way to start your trip!

Hello! Did you make your trip? I would love the details. A friend and I are planning a trip at the end of May!!!

We did make our trip! I just left the following long response to someone on the Paris site - so it it a repeat.

We drove from Epernay to Nitry for one night at one of the best hotels during our entire trip. We had found it in the Alastair Sawday%26#39;s Chateaux and Inns - it was called La Beurasaudiere and was just awesome. They have completely redone a group of farm buildings - well don%26#39;t listen to me - here is their web - www.beursaudiere.com. We stayed in the biggest room - called the Wine growers room with a huge wooden barrel bathtub. The one room was actually 3 rooms. They own a very famous restaurant on the property. Nitry is a tiny very old town.

Along the drive from Epernay to Nitry we stopped off at Troyes which as the most extraordinary medieval timber-framed buildings in town center. We had dreamed of just wandering around towns like this and ended up staying quite a while. The towns oldest church , Eglise Ste-Madeleine has a white stone carving that forms a bridge from one side of the church to the other that had us just saying, %26quot;Oh my God%26quot; over and over. Great places to eat and shop.

Troyes is techinically in the champagne region but very south and on the way to Burgundy.

Next we drove a bit further into Burgundy to Auxerre. WOW. Another incredible town. Set on a river, their grande dame cathedral is up on a hill making it look even bigger than it already is. They are renovating it, but we could still get inside. This is the type of countryside French town you just want to move into. The river is just gorgeous, full of everyone%26#39;s houseboats. That was the night we ended up in Nitry. Nitry is so small it is on very few maps. We had to do a lot of researching, but the hotel I described above is well worth the stop.

The next day it was just a hop skip to Beaune. We LOVED Beaune and if we had known that would have chosen our hotel there. Their town central is fantastic. One entire store sells only Cassis products. Be sure to get some to bring home the ingredients to make your own Kir Royales.

We had a hotel on the Cote. Now, I do not regret this. The towns along the Cote de Nuits are each fantastic and each darling and places you want to try their patesserie and hotels and restaurants.

We stayed in Gevrey-Chambertin where supposedly the BEST Burgundy is from.

We drove back from Paris from here, exploring Dijon on the way. But Dijon had nothing of interest for us after all the above towns. Dijon has grown too big to enjoy (for us) and it is difficult to get into the old town center.

One restaurant in Gevery-Chambertin, Chez Guy, where we had one of the BEST dinners of our entire trip. Also, in same old town, in center is a Pattesserie with the absolute best Almond Croissants we had anywhere.

Burgundy tasting is nothing like in States, and very difficult for us to do without speaking more French. But we did do it and brought home Burgundy.

Anything more let me know.

Hi Gourmand, your recommendations are very useful. I am planning a trip to Burgundy and Epernay with my husband and 3 year old in July. The hotel in Nitry seems great for kids (farm animals!). Would it be a pain to stay there for 3 days and drive to Beaune and the rest of Burgundy to wine taste and lunch for the day each day?

|||

Hi BVHL,

No, Nitry is out in the middle of no where and you would probably not want to stay there for three days. But, from Paris, it is a perfect day trip and place for an overnighter. Then a simple drive to Beaune after that. Beaune is much more interesting and full of life and museums, etc. I would plan to take the trip that way. But you know, we got out a big map, layed on the floor, planned our way by going over wonderful Chateau and Inn books. Look up the Nitry hotel at www.beursaudiere.com

|||

PS to BVHL

No farm animals at the Nitry hotel called La Beursaudiere - it is completely restored old farm buildings. You misunderstood me. It is still a wonderful place kids would love.

Thanks for that - I actually saw the farm animals on one of the pictures on their website so thanks for telling me there aren%26#39;t any! Have ordered the Chateau and Inns book and will consult that. Thanks again for the advice!
