a new and different ATM question

ATM%26#39;s in Paris may have a lower limit on cash per transaction than at home in the US I%26#39;ve learned on this board. If the checking account is a joint account, can my husband and I each get the maximum cash per transaction or is it a maximum amount per day?

Not totally sure...but do you each have your own card with your own password? If so, I would think you could each take your limit. At least that was my experience with my husband and my joint account.

I think if you have different numbers on your cards you can each take out what you need.

You know what I do to get around this rule, I go to various ATMs....it works every time.

I have always found that to be true Les...it is not my bank that is enforcing the limit...it is the ATM machine!

Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone. Because my bank has one branch in Paris where I can use my ATM without paying a fee I%26#39;ll try to use just that one location. If I%26#39;m desperate for more cash, then I%26#39;ll try another ATM at a different bank and pay a fee. Your information is a perfect example of why this forum is so useful in preparing for travel!

Its usually maximum per day but this is restricted by your bank (to stop someone from stealing your card and clearing you out) you should be able to get this set to whatever you want.

But there will also be a maximum per transaction on the ATM to prevent one person taking out all the money!

You shouldn%26#39;t need much Cash in france though. Most places will take Carte Bleu, Visa or Mastercard so you%26#39;ll only need cash for drinks, newspapers and entry into museums etc. Lunch, dinner, shopping, hotels etc can all be bought with card. Even if it doesn%26#39;t look like it ask because they usually come out with a little hand held device for card transactions.

Some Paris ATMs have a much higher limit than others. I%26#39;m not absolutely certain (I just know where the machines are and have long since stopped looking at the signs), but I think Crédit Agricole and BNParibas both have a 600 euro limit. I think Société Générale and Crédit Lyonnais are both 200.
