Cross the river (walk or metro connection) to RER-C. Make sure your train is going to %26quot;Versailles RIVE GAUCHE%26quot; (there are other Versailles stops, and some trains branch off to a totally different route, not Versailles).
A round-trip ticket is roughly 5-6€.

The RER is a fast and efficient way to get to Versailles. This line often uses the double decker trains. The palace is a short walk from the RER station, but there is a small shopping mall in Versailles which has some restaurants.
Be sure to take a few minutes to not the railway station at Versailles, it is a lovely piece of Parisien architecture.
