I don%26#39;t know if this would be appropriate, but decided I would go for it. I will be traveling to Paris/London/ Rome this coming Fall/Winter. I will be going solo for the first time. Might there be someone in this forum interested on possible meeting up and help with my uneasiness about being lonely? I really want to meet new people. Suggestions on popular spots for people like myself would be great. I%26#39;m a gay 21 year old male if that is of importance and not at all flamboyant. I hope that tidbit doesn%26#39;t risk being cheesy and sound like a personals ad.
Thanks

Howdy neighbor!
My best advise is to stay at hostels. You will meet nice friendly cool people weather you want to or not. I say that because my husband is a total antisocial and even he made friends : )
Check out www.hostelworld.com I have booked lots through them and they even offer double rooms, in case you don%26#39;t want to share with like 13 other people.
They might have information in the site about gay clubs and stuff. I%26#39;m not gay and I ran into all kinds of cool gay stuff.
I wish I could go with you : )

The gay Paris is in the Marais near the rue des Archives, many gay-friendly bars there, and loud music. I agree a hostel helps making friends : you have one on rue Mouffetard near the Panthéon, on rue de Fourcy in the Marais.

I%26#39;ve never stayed in a hostel, but I can give you lots of suggestions about Paris%26#39; gay bars, restaurants, cafes, etc. If you%26#39;d prefer detailed information, you can just email me directly at dcgad@aol.com. My partner and I have a home in Paris and we travel there several times a year, so we have a fairly updated knowledge of the %26quot;scene%26quot;.

Howdy Pittstop!
I will be in Paris for the month of February, if you are there then I would be happy to join you for a few cafe-side cups of coffee or some tours and such. I will be there with at least one other friend, and perhaps my cousin as well. Let me know!

P.S....don%26#39;t worry at all about being there alone. I did it! It was a piece of cake. Parisians like to mind their own beeswax, mostly, they might stare some, but most don%26#39;t chat you up, so alone really means ALONE, but it%26#39;s all do-able! Just drink a bottle of wine and talk to yourself in the privacy of your hotel room at night to make up for the lack of conversation during the day, LOL!!!!!!!! :-)

I travel alone a lot - just did Prague, Paris, Berlin %26amp; Amsterdam this year by myself. Will be in Rome over Christmas. If you%26#39;re there drop me a line and maybe we can meet for some espresso.
Ciao

I haven%26#39;t stayed in hostels in Paris, but have in other countries, and I totally agree they%26#39;re the perfect way to go to meet other solo travelers of similar ages %26amp; interests. It is not unheard of to make a new friend or two on your first day %26amp; spend the next 3 weeks travelling with them. If you stay at a hostel you will not be alone long. Good luck planning!

PitStop, it all depends what your personal attitude is: I am the type of guy who will only mumble non committally when spoken to on a plane, to the great discouragement of my neighbor... and then complain about loneliness in my hotel room! If you are open, friendly, curious and non judgmental, it%26#39;s in the bag, you%26#39;ll meet thousands of fellow travelers. Needless to say also that the more your physical features meet the gay standards in this compartment, the more likely you will be to get instant and multiple friendships...
That said, I am always happy to meet visitors to Paris and exchange ideas on cross perceptions... and other less serious issues! So when your plans are definite, we can get in touch to arrange to have coffee when you are in Paris.

PitStop, I%26#39;m also planning a solo trip to London/Paris over Thanksgiving. My last solo travel was to Rome and I had a great time. It would definitely be more pleasant to have companies but going by yourself has its own benefits as well. I would not mind meeting up for some part of the trip if you travel in late November. Once you have a definite plan, let me know.

PitStopGuy,
I too am traveling solo this winter and just 15 minutes ago faxed my reservation info to the hotel I chose in Paris. Will be there 22-28 Dec, so if you are looking at Paris for Christmas drop me a line and we might just be able to meet up for coffee, drinks, even a meal! I am going 14 Nov - 08 March with a rail pass so keep me advised if you%26#39;d like as to where you are and our paths could well cross somewhere. Oh, by the way, I am a 53 yr old white %26#39;gammy%26#39;, a widow and straight.....does that make any difference? :) Think of it as having a nice conversation with one of your mother%26#39;s friends! HA!
